First of all I would like to start by saying that this series, does relate to raising a daughter because one of the hardest things in life is raising a daughter…if you are dead.

Well, I did it. I don’t mean waking up on time. I don’t mean lacing my running shoes up. I don’t even mean going for a jog. What I am most happy about is restraint. One of the hardest things to do is to start running a reasonable volume again.

Some of my ultra buddies and I had a saying…we wouldn’t lace our shoes up for less than a 10k. Most people are proud of a mile or two. Ultra-runners consider that a decent warm-up. So my biggest challenge today wasn’t get out there. It was holding myself back.

I have attempted to start running several time in the last 2 years. Last time my workout was like this:

  • Day 1 – Run 1 Mile.
  • Day 2 – Run 2 Miles.
  • Day 3 – Run 3 Miles.
  • Day 4 – Run 5 Miles.
  • Day 5 – Injury.
  • Day 6 – …
  • Day 7 – …

So for me I needed to keep my ultimate goal in check; to return to running consistently. This time I am putting more value on following the plan that I Big guy joggingstarted with when I was 265 lbs. I’m pretending to be that big guy again so I don’t get injured and have to stop running the first week back.

Today I did this:

  • Walk slowly for 3 minutes to warm up.
  • Walked at a brisker pace for 9 minutes.
  • Jogged for exactly 1 minute.
  • Walked at brisk pace for 9 minutes.
  • Jogged for exactly 1 minute.
  • Walked slowly for 3 minute cool down.

I’ll be doing this for 3 – 4 days this week.

My Starting Weight is: 237.8.

If you are a big guy, whether you have a child or not, get out there and walk. Just walk. Watch this video:
